Jack Garson

Jack Garson writes from the trenches of the business world. As founder of Garson Claxton LLC and leader of his law firm’s business group, Jack has guided companies from start-up all the way to the celebration dinner following the big sale. His extensive understanding of the business world is why he’s sought after to be the lead negotiator in mega-million dollar sales of companies. Jack also serves as legal and strategic advisor for numerous national, regional and local companies, helping them overcome challenges, grow, succeed and sell.

In addition, Jack is a member of the Board of Directors of the prestigious Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which oversees Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport.

How To Build A Business and Sell It For Millions, from St. Martin’s Press, is Jack’s first book. He also writes “The Legal Edge,” a monthly business law column for SmartCEO magazine, a leading business publication in the Washington, D.C. region. In addition, he has authored numerous business and legal columns for an assortment of other publications. Jack graduated with honors from both the George Washington University National Law Center and the University of Maryland.

Jack has always been a leader. At 27, he became the youngest partner ever at a prestigious D.C. area law firm.  A decade later, Jack founded his own firm.  At Garson Claxton, Jack represents everyone from international defense contractors to national developers to local mom-and-pop restaurants. Among his recent accomplishments:

  • Successfully negotiated hundreds of commercial transactions—including the sale of a $150-million business and the purchase of multiple major office buildings and shopping centers.
  • Structured numerous eight-figure construction contracts.
  • Renegotiated numerous contracts for clients suffering in the weakened economy, saving them millions of dollars.
  • Identified deficiencies in franchise documents that enabled him to extricate his client from onerous contract restrictions that might have put his client out of business.
For almost two decades, Jack has received a Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating of "AV," representing the highest possible ratings for legal ability and ethical standards by the most respected national lawyer rating authority.  He was also chosen by his peers as a Super Lawyer in Maryland and the District of Columbia in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. Jack and his wife Marcy live in Potomac, Maryland.
